The Dallas Mavericks (MAVS) have been Dallas Fort Worth's professional basketball team since the season of 1980-1981. Owned by Mark Cuban, the Mavericks are ranked as the ninth most valuable basketball franchise in the NBA, valued at $1.4 billion (according to a 2016 Forbes report). The Mavericks share American Airlines Center with the Dallas Stars, and have sold out every home game since 2001, currently the longest sell-out streak of any professional sports team. Named after the famed Texas law enforcement division, the Texas Rangers are a big deal in Dallas/Fort Worth. Located right next door to AT&T Stadium, the Texas Rangers call Arlington, Texas home at Globe Life Park, formerly known as the Ballpark in Arlington, where they have been since the 1971 season. The Texas Rangers Baseball Club has made seven appearances in the MLB postseason, six following division championships in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2010, 2011, and 2015 and as a wild card team in 2012. The Dallas Stars are North Texas' professional ice hockey team playing every season since 2001 at American Airlines Center, also where the Dallas Mavericks play. The Dallas Stars originated in Minnesota as the Minnesota North Stars, but moved to the DFW area in 1993 when they merged with the Cleveland Barons. Since, The Stars have won eight division titles in Dallas, two President's Trophies as the top regular season team in the NHL, the Western Conference championship twice, and in 1998–99, the Stanley Cup. The Dallas Stars became the first NHL team based in a sub tropical city, from the 35th parallel north to win a Stanley Cup. During hockey season, you can catch Dallas Stars fans riding the Trinity Railway Express from downtown Fort Worth to Dallas in their Stars best, ready for a game on the ice! |
